Who can be an applicant?
An applicant can be a pregnant individual age 18 or older applying for themselves, or an applicant can be the legal partner of a pregnant individual. An applicant can also be a legal guardian or natural parent, foster parent, or stepparent with whom a pregnant child lives. An emancipated-minor, who is not living in the home of a natural parent or adoptive parent, a legal guardian, foster parent, or stepparent, may also be an applicant.

When does MCAP Coverage Begin?
If your application is complete, MCAP will process your application upon receipt.
If your application is incomplete, you will be notified in writing of what is missing and MCAP will also call you to request missing information. If you need help filling out the application, call Covered California at 1-800-300-1506. All help is free.
If your application is complete and you qualify, you will receive a written letter notifying you that you have been enrolled in the MCAP. The letter will provide you with the date your coverage starts.
If you do not qualify, you will receive a written letter stating why you do not qualify.
Your coverage in the MCAP ends the last day of the month in which the 365th day following the end of your pregnancy occurs. You must apply again for each pregnancy, if you would like to be enrolled in MCAP for that pregnancy.
The number of individuals enrolling in MCAP is limited by state funding. While adequate funding is generally available, once the program is full, you will not be enrolled even if you qualify and your application is complete. If this happens, you will be notified by mail.
