DHCS Stakeholder Updates - June 17, 2022
Dear Stakeholders,
The Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) is providing this update of significant developments regarding DHCS programs, as well as guidance related to the COVID-19 public health emergency.
DHCS Commemorates Juneteenth
June 19 is Juneteenth, the annual commemoration of the outlawing of slavery throughout the United States. As we reflect on this historic date, we commemorate the expansion of basic freedom in the U.S. Juneteenth also reminds us that we still have work to do in order to move toward a more just and equitable system.
DHCS remains committed to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion, and eliminating racial and other health care barriers in California, and we are doing so in many ways. For example, through California Advancing and Innovating Medi-Cal (CalAIM), DHCS aims to transform California's health care system to be more equitable, integrated, and person-centered. The Population Health Management (PHM) program, a cornerstone of CalAIM, will work to provide beneficiaries with access to care that leads to longer and healthier lives, improved outcomes, and greater health equity.
DHCS' Comprehensive Quality Strategy's goals and guiding principles are built upon the PHM framework and stress DHCS' commitment to health equity, member involvement, and accountability in all of our programs and initiatives, and for all populations. Additionally, DHCS is leveraging the managed care plan procurement process to drive improvement in quality of and access to care, as well as focus on health equity and reducing health care disparities.
As we honor Juneteenth, we must remember that a healthy California for all starts individually with each one of us, and continues with communities working together to achieve a shared goal.
Enhanced Care Management (ECM) and Community Supports Webinar
On June 21, from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. PDT, DHCS will host the final June webinar on ECM. The “ECM & Community Supports Intersection" webinar will include speakers from Illumination Foundation in California to share their experiences about being both an ECM and Community Supports provider. The webinar will also include “myth-busting” on misconceptions about the two programs. Interested stakeholders are encouraged to submit questions in advance of the webinars to CalAIMECMILOS@dhcs.ca.gov. Attendees will also have an opportunity to ask questions during the webinars. Advance registration is required.
Update on PATH Program Design Webinar
On June 29, DHCS will host a webinar focused on the Providing Access and Transforming Health (PATH) initiative. PATH is a five-year initiative to build and expand the capacity and infrastructure of city, county, and other government agencies and county and community-based providers, including public hospitals, community-based organizations, tribes and designees of Indian health programs, and others to successfully participate in the delivery of ECM, Community Supports, and justice-involved services under CalAIM.
The webinar will provide interested stakeholders with detailed updates on the following PATH initiatives: Collaborative Planning and Implementation; Capacity and Infrastructure Transition, Expansion, and Development (CITED); and Technical Assistance Marketplace.
This webinar will also serve as a venue to answer general questions from stakeholders about PATH initiatives. Interested stakeholders are encouraged to submit questions in advance of the webinar to 1115path@dhcs.ca.gov. Attendees will also have an opportunity to ask questions during the webinar. Advance registration is required.
