Eliminating Health Disparities in the Medi-Cal Population

Multiracial Hands in Circle

The California Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) is committed to working to eliminate disparities in health care and continues to align health equity efforts with the federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Quality Strategy and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Action Plan to Reduce Racial and Ethnic Disparities. DHCS' vision is to preserve and improve the overall health and well-being of all Californians. The physical, economic, and emotional health concerns associated with the COVID-19 pandemic have revealed that our society's inability to erase racial discrimination and resolve equity issues is actually hampering our society's ability to fight the pandemic. While DHCS has always been committed to diversity and inclusion in our workforce and programs, we must now increase our efforts to reduce disparities within our organization and the long-standing inequities of our health care systems.
