For falls and trauma, do providers report ALL falls or just falls that result in fractures, dislocations, etc.? Are there other types of falls and trauma that should be reported?
Providers need report falls and trauma that result in the injuries listed under
HCACs. The definitions, for purposes of reporting, align with the same conditions for Medicare. Providers are not required to report other types of falls and trauma. The ICD-10-CM codes for HCACs are listed on the
CMS website for ICD-10 HAC list.
For surgical site infections, are orthopedic procedures LIMITED to spine, neck, shoulder and elbow or does it include all orthopedic procedures?
Providers only need to report surgical site infections for orthopedic procedures for the spine, neck, shoulder and elbow.
How do you define "clinically significant" for an air embolism?
An air embolism is "an air bubble that enters the blood stream and can obstruct the flow of blood to the brain and vital organs." Clinically significant means causing symptoms or signs.
